What to Expect During the Treatment
In my practice as a reflexologist I see how our feet may reflect our health and wellbeing on all levels (from sole to soul!). They always have a story to tell, if we will take the time to listen. When we re-connect with our feet, we also re-connect with our roots, with a sense of having a solid foundation, of feeling safe, stable, and supported. A reflexology session can feel like a gift to your whole body giving it the opportunity to relax and renew.
I practice 'Light Touch' reflexology which uses gentler pressure than some other techniques although if you would like a firmer touch I am happy to oblige. 'Light Touch' reflexology works both feet simultaneously in order to promote balance and flow throughout the entire system. Treatments may be gentle but can work at a deep level and induce a profound sense of relaxation which enables someone to 'let go' of stress and tension whilst also stimulating the body's natural healing ability to balance itself (homeostasis).
Before the first treatment I will ask information about your medical history and about any current health conditions. As the treatment is focused on treating the whole person I will also discuss your individual situation and needs in order to work with you towards helping to find ways of managing and maintaining your own physical and emotional wellbeing. I will also formulate your individual reflexology treatment plan. The treatment itself lasts 45-60 minutes. During the treatment you may feel relaxed and soothed. You may feel some sensations such as tenderness or tingling in your foot or other parts of the body which can indicate that your system is responding to the treatment.
After Your Treatment
After a treatment you may wish to sit quietly for a few minutes and sip some water to flush through any toxins that may have been released during the treatment. This can also help you to feel more grounded. Can be good to just 'breathe' for a few minutes. Reflexology seeks to rebalance and promote the body’s natural healing ability and most people feel rested and pleasantly relaxed directly following a treatment. However, you may notice other symptoms including; tiredness, blocked nose, aches or some other noticeable physical or emotional after-effects which may cause slight discomfort. If you experience any of these after-effects please do not be concerned. These symptoms are often a sign that the treatment is working by helping to stimulate the body’s natural healing ability.
If you do experience any symptoms that you are concerned or unsure about following a treatment please do not hesitate to contact me
How Many Treatments Might I Need?
One session of Reflexology may be lovely as a 'one-off' mild stress buster, but generally, if you are managing a chronic condition, a course of 6 treatments on a weekly basis is recommended to enable your system to begin to rebalance and heal on a deeper level. If you are generally in good health and are looking to increase your wellbeing and boost your immune system a monthly treatment could suit you.
However, if you are trying to manage chronic stress, anxiety or illness a weekly session is advised in order to begin to promote deeper balance and healing for your entire system. After the course of 6 treatments we can review and step down to fortnightly or monthly 'top up' treatments. I am very flexible and if a course of 6 weekly treatments feels like too much of a commitment then we can discuss something that it is more suitable for your needs.
